Allright, folks. The time of rumors and speculations is over and it turns out we were right. Tonight BioWare officially announced Star Wars: The Old Republic. What a great day for every Star Wars fan!

Set 300 years after the events in Knights of the Old Republic (and featuring some familiar faces), Star Wars: The Old Republic will put players on either side of a massive war between the Republic and the Empire. “It’s not a day-in-the-life of Star Wars,” Ray emphasizes; “It’s about being a hero.” They want the game to fit the scale and proportions of a conflict that spans the entire galaxy. The game will follow BioWare’s emphasis on “choice with consequences” with room for players to be ambiguous or conflicted about their motives. In short, Greg says, it’s what BioWare fans want: a perpetual RPG that delivers the full BioWare experience.
ComputerAndVideoGames.com claims that an announcement about BioWare’s secret MMO project should be expected pretty soon.
A column that appeared last Saturday reports that the rag is soon off to San Francisco to "file an exclusive report on the game", after stating that BioWare is working on "a MMO of Knights of the Old Republic".
Obviously this comes not from the most reliable source. I guess we have to wait and see what happens.
In an interview with Portfolio.com, John Riccitiello of Electronic Arts, "may" have spilled the beans on the new Bioware MMO being published by EA as Knights of the Old Republic. The article quotes Riccitiello as saying:
We’ve got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development,” said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about — in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it." Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? "Yes," he said.
According to some recently laid-off Lucasarts Employee(s), BioWare’s top-secret MMO project is KotOR 3: “We’ve continued to receive e-mails throughout the day from folks who it seems are now formerly in the employ of Lucasarts, telling us this and that about the circumstances behind their departure from the company … Some of the titles they report [...]
Rumor has it, that BioWare is secretly preparing to conduct an extensive market research study on their upcoming MMO. Supposedly, the studio is currently looking for volunteers within certain internal channels that meet the following criteria: Aren’t affiliated in any way with the fields of advertising, journalism (d’oh!), public relations, video game hardware or software developers, [...]
BioWare and Pandemic are now officially part of the Evil Empire - also known as Electronic Arts. The acquisition is proceeding for some time now and we have been assured that the internal processes at BioWare will remain unchanged after the acquisition. However we’ve also witnessed many good studios to be renamed something like “EA [...]
At the recent Independent Game Conference in Austin, BioWare’s Brian Dubose talked about quality assurance, why it’s important — and what it really means. “It’s not monkeys at a keyboard,” warned Dubose. Discussing the QA experience specific to BioWare, Dubose revealed an interesting peek into the process there, especially in light of the recent acquisition by [...]
In a recent Interview with GameInformer, BioWare’s President Greg Zeschuk and CEO Ray Muzyka admitted to be avid WoW Players and fans of the game but they also stated that they find some aspects of the game too tedious and time consuming and hope that BioWare can do better. “it’s almost like having another job.” They [...]
Since December 2005, BioWare has been cranking away at a mysterious MMO down in Austin, Texas. Sony Online Entertainment, the folks behind Star Wars Galaxies, are located in Austin, as well, and BioWare confirmed to us almost a year ago an unspecified number of SOE employees migrated to BioWare when they moved into the area. [...]
A source close to BioWare confirmed to us today that the studio’s upcoming untitled massively-multiplayer online RPG will be centered around the Star Wars universe, specifically that of Knights of the Old Republic, which the developer released in 2003. The game garnered critical acclaim and spawned a less-popular sequel, released by Obsidian two years later. [...]
Today, BioWare and LucasArts issued a press release announcing the two are collaborating on a “ground-breaking interactive entertainment product.” The release promises more information is coming at a “later date,” though everything point to the long-hinted-at Star Wars MMO.
